Monsoon's Weather Update for Wednesday, 15 October 2008
Habari mori,
I have an update on the forecast for the next several days as our weather changes rather dramatically. But first, I need to ask for some help…
Does anyone have the capability to transfer audio from a cassette tape to a CD, or to a computer file? If you have such equipment or know where to find it, I’d be most appreciative of any help you could provide. I have a cassette recording I’d like to be able to share with the world, and it’s not available in any other format. Thanks!
And now, the weather…
Wednesday 10/15: partly sunny, breezy and quite warm. High 79, low 56.
Thursday 10/16: overcast with some breaks of sunshine; a humid breeze with a few showers or even a thunderstorm around in the morning or afternoon. High 74, low 59.
Friday 10/17: mostly sunny and seasonably cooler with moderate NW winds. High 64, low 44.
Saturday 10/18: partly cloudy, breezy and gorgeous. High 60, low 39.
Sunday 10/19: mostly sunny and autumnally beautiful with light, leaves-rustling winds. High 62, low 43.
Monday 10/20: partly to mostly sunny and breezy. High 63, low 40.
The rest of next week: resplendently lovely weather for this time of year, with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the upper 30s.
The following weekend: Rainy and cool for Saturday and part of Sunday the 25th and 26th.
Beyond: A rainy, windy start to the week will give way to lovely fall weather to end the month. Enjoy!
My prediction for tonight: the Phillies will beat the Dodgers, heading to their first World Series since 1993; Barack Obama will score a decisive victory over John McCain (who will not, as he said earlier this week, “whip his you-know-what”), cementing his frontrunning position for the office of President.
Monsoon's Forecast Update for Thursday, 9 October 2008
Habari mori,
I need to revise the forecast I sent out earlier in the week a bit to reflect the milder and drier conditions that should prevail over the coming week or so. Enjoy!
Thursday 10/9: cloudy with a sprinkle to start; then clearing and mild. Rather windy. High 74, low 52.
Friday 10/10: pleasant with lots of sunshine and a refreshing breeze. High 73, low 48. Happy 10th wedding anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Monsoon!
Saturday 10/11: sunny with a few clouds; nice. High 77, low 49.
Sunday 10/12: mostly sunny and warmer. High 79, low 52. Monsoon will complain that we turned the air conditioning off too soon; Mrs. Monsoon will emit an exasperated sigh, accompanied by an eye-roll, followed (hopefully) by an indulgent grin.
Monday 10/13: partly to mostly sunny and continued mild. High 75, low 51.
Tuesday 10/14: partly cloudy to start; becoming mostly cloudy and windy with a few showers possible in the evening. High 72, low 56.
Wednesday 10/15: sunny, clear, breezy, and seasonably mild. High 66, low 45. Time for the final presidential debate at Hofstra, where my sis is a graduate student in Art Therapy.
Thursday 10/16: partly cloudy and breezy. High 63, low 46.
Friday 10/17: cloudy and chilly with periods of rainfall. High 60, low 49.
Next weekend: sunny, clear, and autumnal for both Saturday and Sunday. Highs in the upper 50s, lows in the upper 30s.
Thereafter: the following week begins with similar weather, then becoming cooler after a cold front rolls through.
Monsoon
P.S. “Habari mori” means “Hello friends” in Swahili. I am going to try it out, since “my friends” has been housed by the Republican candidate for President, who uttered the phrase some 22 times during Tuesday night’s debate.
P.P.S. Happy first birthday, Zoe!

Monsoon's Weather Update for Thursday, 25 September 2008
Here’s the latest on a tricky coastal storm approaching our area at this hour.
Today: Rain, steady at times, beginning by 4 or 5pm today and continuing overnight. Breezy with a low of 56.
Friday: Breezy, overcast and chilly with temperatures holding steady in the upper 50s and low 60s for much of the day. Expect widely scattered rain and drizzle throughout the day with rising humidity at night.

Sunday: I’m going out on a limb and saying it’s going to be partly cloudy and dry with a high in the mid 70s. Waning humidity.
Next week: Sunny and pleasant to begin the week; next good chance for precipitation is Wednesday evening into Thursday.
I’ll update you if anything changes tomorrow…
Monsoon's Weather Update for Monday, 22 September 2008
Friends,
I thought I’d offer a quick update on the weather, which will be overwhelmingly dry and pleasant.
Monday 9/22: partly to mostly cloudy. High 73, low 54.
Tuesday 9/23: mostly cloudy; then clearing. High 70, low 48.
Wednesday 9/24: AM fog gives way to a clear, gorgeous afternoon. Expect winds out of the northeast at 10-12mph. High 72, low 53.
Thursday 9/25: sunny to partly cloudy with NE winds 12-15mph. High 71, low 51.
Friday 9/26: partly cloudy and breezy. High 72, low 52.
Saturday 9/27: mostly cloudy with some rain possible, especially in the evening. High 68, low 56.
[There exists the possibility of steadier/heavier rain on Friday and Saturday, but forecast models and indications are in disagreement. Right now it looks to me as though we’ll have relatively little rain, but I’ll be sure to update you if my thinking changes.]
Sunday 9/28: partly cloudy and pleasant. High 74, low 53.
Next week: sunny and nice on Monday and Tuesday with highs around 70 and lows around 50. Wednesday looks cloudy and cooler with a shower or two. Thursday and Friday will be markedly cooler with highs in the low 60s and lows in the low 40s.
The following weekend: partly cloudy and seasonably cool. Highs in the mid to upper 60s; lows in the low to mid 40s.
Beyond: Even cooler!
It looks like we will get that rain after all, and sooner than expected, at that. Thursday afternoon and evening--as well as most of Friday--look like relative washouts.
Wednesday 9/24: sunny, breezy, and nice. High 74, low 53.
Thursday 9/25: overcast, breezy and quite cool with rain developing in the afternoon—continuing, steady at times, into the evening and overnight. High 63, low 58.
Friday 9/26: remaining breezy and cool with periods of rain throughout the day and into the evening. High 66, low 57.
Saturday 9/27: cloudy and breezy with a chance of a shower or two in the morning or early afternoon, depending on how quickly this thing arrives and moves out of here; clearing thereafter. High 71, low 53.
Thereafter, my original forecast for this period holds up, though temperatures may be a few degrees cooler than my forecast highs and lows each day. Showers are possible on Wednesday 10/1 and Thursday 10/2, but Friday the third is looking like a real soaker.
Monsoon's Forecast for Monday, 15 September 2008
Friends…
After an unseasonably warm weekend with highs Sunday reaching into the 90s, we’ll settle into alignment with seasonal averages for mid- to late-September: highs in the low 70s, lows in the low 50s. Enjoy!
Weather narrative : Not a lot to report here, my good people. The rest of the week, through the weekend, and even into next week look downright pleasant with a couple little hiccups of warmish temperatures, as the WeatherTable indicates.
Thanks to some heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Hanna and some nice rain the other night, we’re all in the “normal” range in terms of precipitation, and almost none of the state is under a drought advisory, watch, or warning—let alone emergency. The next really good chance of rain doesn’t seem as though it’ll roll through here for another 10 days or so—Friday the 26th into Saturday the 27th will bring drenchy rains, as noted.
Beyond the forecast: Pleasant with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s and lows in the low 50s.
Monsoon's Weather Update for Wednesday, 10 September 2008
Friends,
Back-to-School Night is behind us (at least those of us at Mifflin) and most of us will be sleepwalking through the rest of the week.
Here’s an exquisite weather forecast I think you’ll enjoy…
Wednesday is sunny and clear with a high of 73 and an overnight low of 49.
Thursday looks sunny, breezy, and pleasant; high 75, low 54.
Friday will be a bit warmer and somewhat more humid with increasing cloudiness throughout the day. A couple of passing showers and possibly even a thunderstorm are possible late. High 79, low 63.
The weekend looks like a bit of a mixed bag in terms of precipitation, but not nearly a washout. Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies on both Saturday and Sunday. There may be a few showers in the area on Saturday, particularly the afternoon and evening, but I think much of Saturday will be precipitation-free; on Sunday the chance of a shower or evening thunderstorm is a bit greater. High Saturday 79, Sunday 83; lows both days will be in the low to mid 60s.
Next week is shaping up to be quite lovely indeed. Look for highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low to mid 50s. The only potential for precipitation is on Monday (slight chance of lingering AM showers or thunderstorms).
Next weekend will feature one good and one not-so-good day. Saturday the 20th will mimic the weather for much of the previous week, with a high of 76 and a low of 53. On Sunday the 21st, clouds will roll in and rain will fall for much of the day and evening.
The following week will usher in autumn—both literally (the 1st day of fall is Monday 9/22) and in terms of the weather. Highs will be in the upper 60s to near 70; lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s. Crisp breezes will dominate and jackets will reappear. Leaves will fall, pumpkins will be picked, and all with be right with the world…
